1. One of Greece's most beautiful island groups

We could talk for hours about why Greece is one of our favorite destinations for a holiday at sea - not least when it comes to the beautiful surroundings, genuine people and Greek food. And why choose to travel to one Greek island when you can visit several? We sail in the Ionian Archipelago among lush islands such as Lefkas, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, Corfu and Ithaca. Not only azure waters and beautiful beaches await, but also Venetian castles and churches, olive groves, plunging limestone cliffs, cool caves, cozy taverns and a pace that makes your shoulders sink. Every island has its charm and on a crewed sailing trip with More Sailing you get to experience the many sides of Greece in a relaxing way. Add fine sailing in balmy winds and Greece is the favorite when it comes to holidays on a sailboat with friends, family or new acquaintances.

2. There's great sailing for all tastes

If you are looking for good sailing in beautiful surroundings, Greece is the option for you. The beauty of sailing in the Ionian archipelago of Greece is that the season stretches long and both the air and the water are pleasant until late into the fall. In addition, the winds are generally stable and the boats are fewer than in many other places, which means that you can often stay out longer during the day and dock in port later in the afternoon. Travel here in the summer months if you prefer more sun, relaxation and swimming - while spring and fall are for those who want more wind and fun sailing. By the way, did you know that Greece has one of the longest coastlines in Europe?

3. Greek food culture & hospitality

One of Greece's strengths is its fantastic food culture and the islands of the Ionian archipelago are no exception. In cozy tavernas, you'll often find classics like Greek salad, the deep-fried cheese saganaki and delicious moussaka - but for goodness sake, don't miss out on the local dishes of fish, lamb and goat. The food culture of this area is influenced by Italian cuisine, having long been ruled by the Republic of Venice. A favorite is pastitsada, which is long-cooked tender meat in a cinnamon-spiced tomato sauce. In addition to the delicious food culture, you'll find genuine Greek hospitality wherever you go - a nice touch that makes you feel very welcome.

4. Discover an unexplored part of the Mediterranean

The west coast of Greece and more specifically the Ionian Islands have several gems that have managed to escape mass tourism. Here is the beautiful island of Kefalonia with the small fishing village of Assos as if taken from a postcard. The mythical pearl of Ithaca - home to Odysseus - with its high mountains, beautiful hiking trails, beaches you can only reach by boat, the small island of Kostos where goats walk around the village and the sunset is strikingly beautiful from the windmill converted into a bar, traditional islands such as Paxos and Antipaxos with their green olive groves and turquoise bays. The list goes on and so do we in exploring this island world.

5. Greek culture & mythology

Journey through history and learn about the mythological king Odysseus on the beautiful island of Ithaca. In the port and main town of Vathy, you'll be greeted by a stately statue of Odysseus - the king who returned to the island of Ithaca and his beloved wife Penelope after fighting in the Trojan War. On the mainland, just north of Preveza, you can explore five archaeological sites - including the impressive Ottoman stone bridge of Arta and the amphitheater of Dodona.
