ARC 2021: New live update, not far away now!

10 December 2021

Not long to go now, says Vi La Ut

5/12

Here at Vi La Ut we alternate between culinary dishes of sailfish, freshly baked bread and diamond knot tying, in addition to sailing the boat of course.

We have a singing competition, a backgammon tournament and lots of book reading, a relaxed atmosphere and a bit of rocking. Today we also serve mulled wine and Santa hats to the entire crew on the occasion of the second advent.

Yesterday we saw whales circulating around the boat, which stayed for about an hour, but the dolphins have been absent in recent days.

The guards are still doing a very good job.

Closer to the goal and course straight to the goal, about 400 distance remains. After some difficult nights with many and long squalls we are now back in a calmer pace.

We get a lot of fish that we feast on. We have several games and books going so no boredom has spread yet. Nor do we have anything to dream about, on the contrary. Continued high atmosphere on board even though the pulley for the gennaker halyard gave up during the last session and our largest sail now has to rest until we have the opportunity to review the rig, which will be when we arrive at Rodney Bay.

Even closer to the goal and less than 200 distance to St. Lucia, we roll along at about 5 knots.

After not having any other boat in sight for several days, we now reach two at really close range, in the middle of the night, one we talk to for a while on channel 72, an American boat.

Some smaller dolphins are visible at the bow and strips of some kind of bladderwrack have begun to appear in the surface water. The canned reserve food has begun to run out and it is more difficult to vary the menu towards the end.

Everyone is healthy and functioning, if somewhat impatient in the calm weather.
