Packing lists, shopping, thoughts, weird dreams, two worried parents and a girlfriend who doesn't really know how it will go not to talk to me for a couple of months. The big adventure is starting to creep up on me. I myself have not really understood it yet, not even when skipper Fredrik sends pictures and says that the boat is in the water and the rigging of the mast has begun. When will it start to feel like I'm leaving? At the airport, when we cast off from Croatia? One of the biggest adventures of my life is approaching, sailing across the Atlantic!
"But it's getting close Mathias, you'll have to make sure you're safe when you sail across.", "Good luck Mathias, I hope everything goes well". What have I gotten myself into? What can the Atlantic really offer beyond my previous experiences? Maybe we shouldn't compare it to the dinghy splash from my childhood, but my experience from Croatia as a skipper should have given me some meat on my bones? Skipper Fredrik talks about 15-meter high waves off the coast of Africa, sailing in 17 seconds in the middle of the night and repairs to the masthead in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. I haven't really been through that. Mom just rolls her eyes, "the less I know the better".
For my, my loved ones and for those of you who are curious about what really happens out at sea, I intend to document my journey in pictures and text. I hope to be able to share with you about life on board, the mighty forces of the sea and how it actually happens to cross the Atlantic from start to finish. You will be able to follow us here on the blog, I will, with the help of the satellite network on board, try to post updates continuously throughout the journey and we hope that it is so interesting that you want to follow us on our adventure! It will be great!
