The Atlantic blog: St. Lucia

I can take the opportunity to say a few words about St. Lucia, which we have now spent a few days on. St. Lucia has in the past been a war-torn island where France and England have changed power over the island 14 times. It was not until 1979 that the island became an independent state.

We took a guided tour around the island the other day and got to experience a tropical climate and a culture clash in many ways. With a little Toyota minivan with reggie pumping in the speakers, we meandered around the island's mountain walls. We drive on the left and the "main road" was no more than one lane for both directions in many places. However, it is a very good way to see the island, fun to see the rainforest and how the islanders live and work. 170.000 exciting people, many with completely different life philosophy than you have.

The tour included bathing in 40 degree black mineral water heated by the island's volcano, hiking in the rainforest and tasting fresh bananas on the banana fields and cassava cakes. And the view wasn't bad either.
